Ryan Lehto

Ryan Lehto

CEO

Ryan Lehto is the CEO of CG Labs. He is currently finishing his PHD program in Biotechnology harnessing new ways to store DNA at Lakehead University. He holds a Master’s of Science degree in Biochemistry, an honors degree in Biology, certifications in ancient DNA, environmental consulting and forensics. In a long and diverse science career Ryan has worked in forensics, microbiology, environmental consulting, and teaching. Some of his roles include Operational Supervisor of the Paleo DNA Lab which specialized in ancient DNA research, Sessional Lecturer for Confederation College in the Health, Negahneewin, and Community Services Department and Microbiologist for ALS Laboratories. Ryan brings his very diverse employment background in management and strong academic science background to C.G. Labs Management. He has pioneered research into DNA degradation and preservation making the long term storage of DNA the focus of his academic career. He speaks at events regularly and is a guest commentator for several periodicals.

Neal Esau

Neal Esau

Laboratory Director and Co-Founder

Neal Esau obtained his Masters of Science degree in Biology from Lakehead University in 2010 with a thesis involving the study of DNA damage and mechanisms of repair. Since that time, he has been involved in studying wild rice genomics, environmental sample analysis, and most recently, managing the laboratory and operations at CG Labs Inc. Neal is passionate about genetics and strives to advance our understanding of DNA and its mechanisms through conscientious research and development of new procedures and methodologies. His scientific research has been published in several different scientific journals and his diverse laboratory work experience has allowed him to handle all problems put before him, whether it be developing standard operating procedures, interpreting results, or installing and operating specialized equipment. His contributions to the CG Labs team are vital and he is a key factor to our success.

Neal was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario and takes pride in his community and local economy. He has volunteered for the Canadian Cancer Society, St. John’s Ambulance, as well as lend his voice to LU Radio, a not-for-profit, campus based, community radio station in Thunder Bay.

Managing Director : Europe

Simon Rothwell is Managing Director of our European division and is Managing Director and owner of Flexmort (Roftek Ltd), CG Labs UK partner. Flexmort is a manufacturer of innovative cooling systems and supplies funeral directors, hospitals, hospices and governments around the globe. Flexmort has won numerous innovation awards including the 2013 “Big Ideas Business Award” at The University of Warwick, England for innovation and the prestigious 2015 Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce Award for Excellence in Innovation.

Simon lives in Warwick, England and possesses a wide range of business experience coupled with a Law degree and an MBA from Warwick University (with distinction). He started his early career as a British Police Officer before moving into business. Simon has been a focus of academic publications regarding entrepreneurial business strategies. He has advised new start-ups on sales and marketing at Cranfield Business School and acted as Publishing Editor for the Senate Hall Strategic Management Journal. In 2013 he sat on the assessment panel for the UK’s Entrepreneur Of The Year award at Cranfield Business School. He has presented at a variety of academic events both at home (e.g. Cranfield Business School, Open University), overseas (including REDETE 2014 in Bosnia) and was awarded Best Speaker at the 2014 Malaysian National Convention of Forensic Medicine and Science 2014. Simon is also a member of the University of Warwick Minerva Business Angel Network which provides advice and capital investment for U.K. businesses.

VP Strategic Partnerships

Beth Kelln is the Vice President of Strategic Partnerships of our North American division. She plays a key leadership role in the development, growth, and success of our proprietary DNA preservation solution for our clients and their families. Beth’s responsibilities include the development and execution of the Company’s North American strategic direction, and leading the organization to achieve both its short-term and long-term business results.

Prior to joining the Company in 2016, Beth held progressive positions in the consulting, insurance benefits and marketing industries. Beth brings with her a wealth of knowledge in business; sales, marketing and driving successful channel relationships. In addition, she and her husband run their own small business providing a unique lens to the organizations she supports.

Beth is a graduate of Wilfrid Laurier’s BBA program. She lives north of Toronto with her husband and their wonderful kids.

Thomas Paul

Thomas Paul

Business Development

Thomas Paul graduated from the Business – Marketing program at Confederation College in Thunder Bay in 2016 and upon graduation completed a one-year internship with the Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce where he was able to gain a wealth of experience in various aspects of business operations. Thomas has experience in website design and maintenance, accounting practices, and sales in addition to his marketing background. He also has a strong history of customer relations experience that has stemmed from his years of working in the retail industry prior to completing his education.

Thomas joined DNA Memorial in 2017 in conjunction with the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre’s Go Global Sales Program.

Thomas is a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay and in his spare time he can be found spending time with his family and friends. He is an avid sports fan and his love for the Indianapolis Colts has served as the basis for both good and bad days.

Valerie Uusitalo

Valerie Uusitalo

Logistics Specialist

Valerie has over 25 years in Logistics and Shipping through the Canada Post Corporation.

Valerie joined CG Labs in 2017 to manage the shipping and receiving of the DNA samples and timely reporting to clients. Valerie is in charge of maintaining a strict supply chain and global shipping program running in multiple locations throughout the globe.

She is an avid pet lover and resides in Thunder Bay with her husband and three daughters.
